First Townhall Style Discussion in Tul Karem

On the 29th October 2008 in Tul Karem, MEND launched its latest project to promote active nonviolence and human security in the West Bank. The project for a town-hall style discussion, organised by Issa Asslan (MEND Project Coordinator), was held at Al-Quds Open University. The discussion featured 3 very accurate and interesting talks by local professors and officials on subjects ranging from “human security” and “human rights” to “personal development in Palestine”. These were followed by a Q&A session in which members of the audience were encouraged to challenge the speakers. Local MENDers and students duly obliged, making insightful remarks and asking poignant questions on the position of nonviolence in Palestinian society and their opinions of “rights” and “security”. This is an ongoing project, with many more such discussions planned for other cities in the West Bank.
